My unexpected turn into real estate
Every so often, when I’m catching up with friends, the question inevitably arises: “Ken, did you quit photography?” Photography will always be my first love, but I’ve come to embrace the fact that my interests are evolving.
My journey into real estate was entirely unexpected. Three years ago, a client reached out, asking me to quote for real estate videography. At the time, I had never filmed a property before, but my curiosity pushed me to explore this new opportunity. With a beginner’s mindset, I turned to YouTube for guidance, immersing myself in tutorials on real estate videography trends. Although I was confident in my skills, I wanted to ensure my work met industry standards for showcasing homes.Armed with fresh knowledge, I went to the property, ready to put my learning into practice. As I stepped into the space, I was immediately captivated by the elegance of luxury living. The home was beautifully designed and staged, and I found myself both inspired and awestruck. In that moment, a spark was ignited— I thought to myself, "I could definitely get used to this kind of work."
What started as a single real estate project quickly blossomed into a stream of opportunities. I began creating marketing content for various properties, refining my skills with each shoot. Then, something unexpected happened: I received a message on Instagram from a potential buyer inquiring about a property I had showcased. My intent had only been to attract clients by displaying my videography work, but here was someone genuinely interested in the home.
I provided the details of the property, and the buyer asked for a viewing. From there, events unfolded quickly. I coordinated a meeting between the buyer and my client, the seller, and within a month, the deal was closed. Earning my first commission felt surreal—it was a moment of validation that confirmed I was on the right path.
Since then, I’ve worked with more clients, each experience offering new insights into their journey with the properties I sell. One particularly memorable client purchased land, built a home, lived in it, then eventually moved out, entrusting me to manage the property on her behalf. That deepened my curiosity: what do my customers do with the spaces I help them acquire?
Today, I am driven by a passion for connecting people with their ideal environments. My vision is to provide spaces that go beyond function or profit—they should inspire and delight, serving as places where people can live, work, and play. When I see a property, I always ask myself, “Would I want my daughter to own, live or work here?” This question guides my commitment to providing spaces that are not only practical but enriching experiences for their users.
